Assisting Self Murder

Serious Consequences
for Helping Another Commit Suicide

When a friend or family member asks for support in ending his or her life, you may be inclined to lend assistance.
This is an extremely trying situation to face. However, it is advisable that you consider the potential consequences of providing this type of assistance as it can lead to felony charges. In fact, a charge of Assisting Self-Murder has the potential to carry heavy consequences in the State of Florida.
Florida Statutes make it clear that assisting another person in committing suicide is a second-degree felony, categorized under Homicides. Statute 782.08 reads as follows:
“Assisting self-murder. – Every person deliberately assisting another in the commission of self-murder shall be guilty of manslaughter, a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.”
